Ted Miller was 18 years old the first time he worked on a tennis court. He was a laborer then, working for several local tennis court contractors around Southern California, learning the trade the way you learn any trade worth knowing: on your knees, in the sun, doing it wrong until you do it right.
Thirty-five years later, he’s still at it. He founded Baseline Tennis Courts in 2003, and we’ve been building, repairing, and resurfacing sport courts across the state ever since.

Court Resurfacing
You can usually feel it before you can see it. The court gets slick underfoot. Your footing gives on a hard stop. Then you notice the color has gone flat and there’s a crack running out from the service line that wasn’t that long last season.
Fading, slipperiness, cracking, bubbling, peeling. Any one of those means the acrylic is breaking down and the court is ready for new coatings.
Resurfacing clears the problems and puts down a fresh surface that grips again and looks new. We resurface tennis, pickleball, basketball, shuffleboard, and multi-sport courts, indoor and outdoor.
Most courts need it every four to seven years, though it depends on how much play they get.
How a Resurface Goes
Site Inspection
We walk the court, check for low spots holding water, map the cracking, and tell you what the surface needs. Sometimes that's less than you expected.
Surface Preparation
Power washing and grinding to get down to clean, sound surface. New coating over a bad bond is money wasted.
Repairs
Cracks cleaned and filled. High spots ground down. Low areas where water puddles patched and leveled.
Coatings
Acrylic goes down in layers, SportMaster or Acrytech, in whatever colors you choose.
Striping
Fresh regulation lines, painted with clean edges.
Final Inspection
We check the finished court with you before we call the job done.
Court Repairs and Crack Repair
Not every court needs a full resurface.
Sometimes the problem is a section of cracking on one side. A low spot that turns into a pond every time it rains. Coating peeling in a shaded corner. Sagging fence, torn windscreen, a net that’s given up. Those are repairs, not resurfaces, and they cost accordingly.
Crack repair is the big one, because cracks are what kill courts. A hairline you barely notice lets water down into the base. The ground underneath shifts. By next season the crack is wider, the edges have started to lift, and now it’s a trip hazard running through your court.
Caught early, most cracks are routine. We clean them out, fill them, and finish the repair so the court plays smooth over the top. Crack repair is standard on any resurface we do, and it’s also a job worth doing on its own.
Cracks caused by problems in the base are a different conversation. Filling those treats the symptom, and we’d rather tell you that up front than take your money twice.
Acrylic Coatings and Cushion Systems
The coating system is the court, as far as your feet and the ball are concerned. It’s also where cutting corners shows up fastest.
We install SportMaster and Acrytech acrylic surfacing, professional-grade products used on courts that take daily play for years. Baseline Tennis Courts is a certified installer for both, and we’re paint rep certified and backed by the top paint companies in the industry. That certification isn’t decorative. It means the manufacturers have trained us on their products and stand behind the work.
A proper coating job goes down in layers rather than a single coat of paint, over a surface that’s been washed, ground, and repaired first. Every product we use carries UV protection, which matters more in California than almost anywhere, because sun is what pulls the color out of a court.
Cushion systems are the other option. The courts at the US Open and Australian Open use cushioned surfacing, and you can put the same kind of surface on your own court. Cushion builds give into the surface, absorbing impact on every step, stop, and landing. Your knees, hips, and back feel the difference within one session, and the ball still plays true.
Court Striping
Lines are the difference between a painted slab and a court.
We measure and paint regulation striping for tennis, pickleball, basketball, shuffleboard, and any combination sharing one surface. Measured to spec, edges cut clean, colors chosen so the layout stays readable from the baseline.
The most common call we get: adding pickleball lines to an existing tennis court. It’s quick, it doesn’t disturb the tennis surface, and it turns one court into two sports. We use a contrasting color so nobody’s squinting at overlapping stripes mid-point.
On multi-sport courts, the sport you play most should read instantly and the rest should sit quietly underneath. We map that out with you before any paint goes down.
Court Washing and Maintenance
The cheapest court you’ll ever own is the one you take care of.
Dirt, algae, and buildup collect on any court, fastest in the shaded corners and along the low edges where water lingers. The surface goes slick long before it’s worn out, and people blame the coating when the real problem is grime.
Court washing. We power wash tennis, pickleball, basketball, and all sport courts, and we clean windscreens too. It’s the least expensive thing you can do for a court and one of the most useful. Regular washing restores traction, keeps the colors looking like colors, and pushes your next resurface further out.
Ongoing maintenance. Washing on a schedule, filling small cracks before they open up, touching up faded lines, checking nets and fencing. None of it is expensive on its own, and together it delays the big resurface while keeping the court safe and looking sharp.

A surface isn’t a court until you put things on it.
We supply and install nets, net posts, windscreens, fencing, court lighting, benches, bleachers, scorekeepers, ball holders, trash receptacles, basketball setups, and court maintenance equipment. All professional grade, and we install everything we sell.
Court lighting deserves its own mention. Good lighting turns a court you use in the evenings three months a year into one you use year round, and we install it on new builds and existing courts alike.
